Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney made an encouraging recruiting prediction for the Texas Longhorns this week.
Gorney predicted that Texas will be the program that wins the recruiting battle for 2026 four-star wide receiver London Smith.
Smith, 6-foot/175 lbs from Waco, TX, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 27 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 18 player in the state of Texas. He's also rated as the No. 159 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.
Gorney has Texas landing Smith over Baylor and Texas A&M (among others).
From Rivals.com: There is a feeling that there could be a significant regional draw to Smith’s recruitment and that will favor three teams.
Texas, considered the front-runner right now, is less than two hours away. Texas A&M, also very much in the running, is about the same distance. And then Baylor is right in his hometown for the four-star receiver from Waco (Texas) University.
After catching 45 passes for 626 yards and five touchdowns in his junior season, there will be others chasing Smith throughout his recruitment but our guess is that he doesn’t go too far from home.
Smith's parents, Rodney and Stacey, were both student-athletes at Baylor (Rodney played football and basketball….Stacey excelled in track and field and was inducted into the Baylor Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009).
It will be tough to hold off Baylor in this recruiting battle given the family connections, but Texas is an extremely attractive destination for football players these days. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Gorney's prediction come true, though that doesn't mean it's an automatic for the Longhorns.
