The Detroit Lions offseason is underway and it's time to think about the endless possibilities of what this team could do when it comes to coaching hires, drafting players, and signing free agents. Football just never ends and you have to love that.

Of all the things that could possibly happen this offseason, we're willing to stick our necks out and guarantee that the following four things will absolutely not happen. Two are pretty obvious and two are us reaching a little, but also feel pretty obvious. Let's jump into it.

The Lions are guaranteed to not move away from Jared Goff

Look, I know that there's someone out there saying "What if they have a shot at Josh Allen or a team offers a boatload of first-round picks?" We're not playing the hypothetical game. Neither of those things is happening.

Jared Goff is locked in with this team whether some fans like it or not. We've already seen a ton of indications on that. For starters, you just don't get rid of an MVP candidate which Goff is. Secondly, Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes have already talked about how important building around Goff and keeping him in place is.

So if you're thinking about a fantasy world in which the Lions get that mobile quarterback you're dreaming of, keep dreaming. This guy isn't going anywhere.

The Lions are guaranteed to not use the franchise tag

Brad Holmes has never used the franchise tag and he won't start this year. The big reason is that the Lions have demonstrated that they have no problems negotiating with their own players and keeping them in town, the other big thing is that there really aren't any pending free agents that you would really deem franchise tag worthy.

You don't want the Lions to use the franchise tag anyway. It almost always ends badly and just makes players feel like they're trapped or not important enough to work up a new deal for.

The Lions are guaranteed to not run things back with Emmanuel Mosely one more time

I hate this and everyone else hates it too. But a torn ACL and then another torn ACL followed by a torn pectoral and an illness. It's just a lot. Plus when Mosely got back to playing shape, the Lions chose not to use him on defense at all. In total, Mosely played 31 snaps in two seasons. Only two of those were on defense.

The Lions are guaranteed to not make a pick in the supplemental draft

It's low-hanging fruit and I'm taking it. At this point, we don't even know if the supplemental draft is going to even happen. Last year the NFL canceled the 2024 supplemental draft shortly before the event was to take place and its status for 2025 is up in the air. If it does happen, the Lions aren't making a pick. They haven't made one since they took cornerback Kevin Robinson in the 1982 supplemental draft. I was not born yet.
