Everyone knows the top Transfer Portal priorities for Notre Dame football this offseason. They must find impact players at both defensive tackle and wide receiver. The former is especially important with Rylie Mills and Howard Cross III exhausting eligibility, and the future of Jason Onye very much up in the air.
The Fighting Irish staff is aiming to fill that need, and aggressively. From the sounds of it, money will not be an issue, and they are looking for big time players. Speaking of big, there was a huge entrant into the portal on Friday when former UCF standout defensive tackle Lee Hunter announced that he had entered.
One of the biggest things that Notre Dame fans have begged for over the last couple of years is more size up the middle, and Hunter brings a lot of that. At 6-4 and 320 pounds (very generous), Hunter is an imposing force from the interior. His presence is always known.
Over the last two seasons, Hunter has been tremendous for the Golden Knights. In 25 games during that stretch, he has recorded 114 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks. Hunter has also broken up a pass during that time.
A Mobile, Alabama native, Hunter originally signed with Auburn during the 2020 recruiting class. He was a highly recruited kid, ranking as the No. 81 overall player and 12 defensive lineman in that class. Hunter had offers from pretty much every major program, including the Tigers, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, LSU, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Florida State among many others.
