During the Dallas Cowboys' 4-1 run going into Week 17's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the biggest reasons why Mike McCarthy's team was being applauded was the fact that his team was fighting hard and showing no quit despite being extremely unlikely to head to the playoffs.

So naturally, during Sunday's 41-7 blowout loss in Philly, the opposite narrative took over as fans and media members are debating whether or not the Cowboys quit.

Unprompted, one of the best players on the Cowboys roster, left guard Tyler Smith shut down the noise with a postgame message on the matter.

"It's extremely hard (to lose this way)," Smith told reporters in the locker room. "But one thing I can definitely say is nobody on our sideline quit—not one person threw in a towel, folded, started pointing fingers, or any of that. So I can definitely say our guys are just one of a kind. We’re going to come in, we’re going to work."

While Smith's message might sound like nothing but player talk to some, all of these comments are bound to be scrutinized with McCarthy's job on the line. With one more game left to go in 2024, a decision on the future of the Cowboys head coach is bound to happen soon. Every game matters.

For the past month or so, Cowboys players have publicly had McCarthy's backs and even though Smith didn't mention him by name, his comment could be interpreted as support for the staff.

If players want McCarthy to be re-signed, which at this point feels like a 50-50 possibility, they'll have to show up big in Week 18 to end the year in a positive note while Jerry Jones ponders his options.

"The result wasn’t nearly what we wanted today, but at the end of the day, we’ve got one more opportunity next week," Smith added. "That’s all we can focus on, so that’s all we’ve got to do."
