Deion Sanders speaks out on rumors of him controlling where son Shedeur Sanders plays as NFL Draft order gets clearer
Buckle up for the offseason.
NASHVILLE — NFL legend Deion Sanders has been the face of college football for the last two seasons. "Coach Prime," with sons Shedeur (quarterback) and Shilo (safety) at his side, turned around the Colorado Buffaloes program from a one-win nobody to a 9-4 bowl participant in short order.
It has been equal parts inspiration and spectacle to watch.
Deion Sanders will not hesitate to squash Shedeur draft speculation
Shedeur, a projected first-round NFL prospect, will be the subject of much debate as the league's regular season comes to a close this week.
Prime took to social media on Monday to make it known that any influence he has on his sons' draft process will be kept in-house.
"It will be multiple IDIOTS that will say things that totally aren't true regarding where I would like @ShedeurSanders & @ShiloSanders to play in the @nfl," Prime said. "If I say it, I will say it directly to whom it may concern, not an attention seeker. I do know @nflcommish personally! Mic Drop.
"They've already started the lying and positioning, but they forgot I got TIME TODAY."
Teams not participating in the playoffs, like the Tennessee Titans (3-13), are nearing finalization of their draft order this April.
After the benching of Will Levis in his second pro season, Tennessee could be in the market for a rookie quarterback should they end the year with the first or second overall selection. Speculation will about around where Prime would or would not want Shedeur, specifically, to land. Shedeur may have poured a little extra fuel on that fire by showing off a pair of red, white and blue New York Giants cleats prior to Colorado facing off against BYU in the Alamo Bowl this past Saturday.
Prime should be praised for taking an active role in his sons' draft process, given how difficult if can be to navigate.
Rumors will be started, smokescreens will be deployed and out-right lies will be told as teams try to set themselves up in the best position to succeed. We might never truly know which teams are on the Sanders' family no-fly list, but you can be certain Prime will make his opinions know. Organizations regularly fail promising, young NFL players if they are not properly equipped to support their development for any number of reasons.
Nothing wrong with one of the sport's most influential figures privately taking matters into his own hands.
