Oklahoma Sooners snag speed demon in the transfer portal from SEC foe who happens to have WR1 potential
The Oklahoma Sooners have lost quite a few players to the transfer portal, most notably at the offensive line and wide receivers positions. The Oklahoma Sooners have lost quite a few players to the transfer portal, most notably at the offensive line and wide receivers positions. When it comes to wide receivers, they lost Nic Anderson, Andrel Anthony, J.J. Hester, and even Jalil Farooq. But, they have since added Keontez Lewis, Javonnie Gibson, and now another wide receiver.
This time, they added a guy from another SEC school, who has elite speed and wide receiver one potential if he can just fix his drop issue. That player is none other than Isaiah Sategna.
Sooners add former Arkansas WR in transfer portal
Sategna, hailing from Fayetteville, Arkansas, made a name for himself as a standout wide receiver for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Initially, he was recruited as a four-star prospect, committing first to Texas A&M, then to Oregon, before finally deciding on Arkansas.
At Fayetteville High School, under the guidance of former Razorback QB Casey Dick, Sategna achieved 172 receptions for 3,261 yards and 25 touchdowns, topping the national charts with 1,908 receiving yards in his senior year.
His excellence wasn't limited to football; in track and field, he was honored as the 2021-22 Gatorade Arkansas Boys Track & Field Player of the Year. His college journey began with a redshirt year in 2022, followed by a redshirt freshman season in 2023 where he appeared in all 12 games, garnering Freshman All-SEC and Third-Team All-SEC accolades mainly for his prowess in returns.
He had 15 receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns that year. In 2024, as a redshirt sophomore, he caught 37 passes for 491 yards and scored one touchdown, with notable plays like a 58-yard touchdown versus Auburn and an 88-yard punt return. However, after three seasons at Arkansas, Sategna entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on December 4, 2024, with two years of eligibility remaining.
The Sooners need the speed, and they need to put as many weapons around John Mateer as possible. Sategna doesn't quite have the numbers that he would have liked, but he was also on a bad offense the last few years, with a revolving door at QB, and played with one of the best WRs in the SEC in Andrew Armstrong.
This is a huge get for the Sooners.
Former Sooners QB Jackson Arnold may have decided his transfer portal destination already
A reunion in the cards.
