The Baltimore Ravens are wrapping up a present for their fans on Christmas Day. Against an AFC playoff team in the Houston Texans, they've dominated from start to finish, led by quarterback Lamar Jackson.
For a few weeks, Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen has seen his MVP odds improve steadily. After Jackson's latest performance, he may see a boost in his potential chances to take home the NFL's award for the third time in his career.
Lamar reenters MVP race
Jackson was marvelous, efficient, and flashy. In most games, that is who he proves to be as the Ravens starter. His calmness under pressure and consistent demeanor have molded him into one of the best talents in the entire league.
The Ravens QB has rushing ability that we've truly never seen before in the league in a long-term manner. The numbers back that premise up, too.
During the victory, Lamar became the NFL's record holder for rushing yards by a QB in a career, surpassing Michael Vick.
A unique trend
Every single quarterback in NFL history to throw 35+ passing touchdowns and five or fewer interceptions has won the MVP.
Jackson has already eclipsed the first half of that artistic. Now, he just needs to throw one or less INTs next weekend to close the season to grab the other half, too. He'd be making more NFL history – once again.
As for Baltimore, they are simply not a team that anyone wants to see right now. They dominate in the trenches on both sides of the football and continue to get healthier on defense.
Their rushing attack, led by Derrick Henry and Jackson, is lethal in a way unlike any other team in the entire league. Simply put, Jackson's mobility alongside Henry's power is terrifying for every single defense for the postseason.
Add in the fact that Lamar may have his best statistical season of his career as a whole, and you've got a legitimate MVP case that rivals the QB in Buffalo. Both are incredibly deserving, and the final week of the regular season could sway the final vote tally.
