Steve Sarkisian reveals the Longhorns’ practice schedule leading up to Peach Bowl vs. Arizona State
Horns will take two days off for Christmas, then return to get ready for Sun Devils
Crazy as it sounds, the Longhorns don’t have much time to celebrate. Texas must get ready for Arizona State and the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
Kickoff in the Peach Bowl at noon on New Year’s Day will be here in a blink.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian doesn’t have time to relish in the 14-point win over Clemson. The coaching staff and players must navigate Christmas and then a relatively tight six-day span before Jan. 1.
“So what we’ll do (Sunday) will be a normal Sunday for us as a staff and for the players, kind of a recovery type day, and for us, evaluating the film, starting our game planning on Arizona State,” Sarkisian said.

“And then we'll bring (the players) in Monday morning, and we’ll start installing the base game plan and we'll have a practice Monday morning like we normally would.”

The Horns will then be fully released two days for Christmas, Sarkisian said.
“They we'll come back on the 26th, and we'll start a normal week of prep with kind of one extra day in there,” he said.
“And I think that'll be sufficient. One, to get healthy again and to keep ourselves fresh, to give everybody a chance to be with their families. I think that’s important, too, and that allows the coaches to game plan. But three, it still gives us an opportunity to prepare and be ready to go and we get to Atlanta.”
Make no mistake, someone inside the coaching office has already been hard at work on Arizona State. The Horns have offensive and defensive analysts whose job it is to advance scout. The analysts prepare film and reports and present the information to the coaches, who then do their own dissection.
Texas coaches knew if they beat Clemson, the Horns were advancing to face the Sun Devils. So this wasn’t a surprise.
Still, the Horns will take as many days they can get to get linemen Cam Williams and Jake Majors and running back Tre Wisner healthy again. Same goes for receiver Isaiah Bond, who was unable to play against Clemson with an ankle injury.
Jan. 1 will be here fast. The clock is already ticking.
