The quest for the NFC East title just became a little harder for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in its matchup against the Washington Commanders.
The Eagles ruled out quarterback Jalen Hurts with a concussion prior to the end of the first half.
Hurts went into the blue medical tent during the first quarter after it appeared he took a hard hit to the head. He came out a few plays later and had his helmet on.
However, before he could reenter the game, Hurts was taken into the locker room for further evaluation. Shortly after, the Eagles announced that Hurts was being evaluated for a concussion.
The Eagles starting quarterback was replaced by Kenny Pickett, who wasted no time. He came in for a crucial 3rd-and-7, immediately connecting with A.J. Brown for 10 yards. And then moments later, he found Brown in the end zone to put Philadelphia up by two scores.
But, on the following drive, Pickett was picked off by Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu.
NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark reported that he saw the NFL's independent neurologist walk over to the sideline without Hurts.
And that was the first sign that Hurts wasn't going to be coming back in.
However, even without Hurts, the Eagles currently lead the Commanders 21-7 and after the news became official, Pickett sent a 45 yard bomb to Brown down the sideline.
So, the Eagles seem to be doing okay without their leader. But, they will want him back as soon as possible.
