The Tennessee Vols weren't able to get a win against Ohio State in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday night, but UT fans made a big statement with their showing in Columbus.

Somewhere around 30,000 Vols fans invaded the Horseshoe on Saturday night which resulted in plenty of orange in Ohio Stadium.

Those Tennessee fans left disappointed thanks to Ohio State's 42-17 win.

But plenty of folks showed a lot of respect for the Vols fan base for making the trip north to see Tennessee play in freezing temperatures.

"I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge Tennessee fans," tweeted On3's Ari Wasserman. "There are few fan bases in the country that are as passionate and fired up about their team, and though people are piling on them after the loss, the effort to come to Columbus and support their team the way they did is unrivaled."

"People call Tennessee fans crazy," continued Wasserman. "Maybe they are. But coming up to Columbus, making graphics, buying Tennessee-themed songs on Juke boxes, filling up a supportive stadium with Orange and portraying confidence? The team didn't win, but they had a hell of a time. That's what this sport is about. Be crazy. Bravo."

Wasserman is right — this is what the sport is all about. Fans traveling to see their favorite team play in a unique environment while having a great time. That kind of stuff is what makes college football so special.

The outcome of the Tennessee vs Ohio State game is what it is. Fans have no control over the result. All they can do is show up, have a good time, and support their team.

And it seems like no one does that better (win or lose) than Vols fans.
