The NCAA Transfer Portal opened this week, and loads of talented college football players have already entered in hopes of finding a new home. We have seen some already committing, others setting up visits, and finalists beginning to solidify themselves.
One of the more interesting wide receivers that has entered the portal is Kentucky star Dane Key. The 6-3, 210-pound pass catcher is a Lexington, Kentucky native and grew up a fan of the Wildcats. It surely was a difficult decision to leave, but he now finds himself as one of the hot commodities on the market.
There has been a lot of interest out there for Key, but there are three schools specifically who seemed to have separated themselves for the SEC star. That includes Ole Miss, whom Key will be visiting this weekend. Both Georgia and Nebraska are the other schools trending to the top of the list.
Key has quietly been tremendous for Kentucky since he joined the program. In three seasons, he has hauled in 126 receptions for 1,870 yards and 14 touchdowns. The talented pass catcher hasn’t had a single season less than 519 yards. He has been ultra consistent.
Most people are going to discuss the size when talking about Key, but that is seriously underselling his overall athleticism. Key is also a really impressive route runner for his size, creating a lot more separation than you might expect. This is an all around wide receiver that can win in a variety of ways.
Along with fellow transfer portal entrant Barion Brown, they made a tremendous tandem while a part of the Kentucky program. Unfortunately poor quarterback and offensive line play limited their impact. Both have been valued tremendously so far this portal cycle.
