Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers wasn’t about to delve into his future plans on Monday. Not with Clemson looming in the first round of the College Football Playoffs.
Asked about his future beyond this season, Ewers said, “I’m not sure yet. I’m just trying to win these games.”
Internet speculation is rampant, saying that Ewers will transfer or that he will go pro. Until you hear from Ewers himself, don’t believe any of it.
“I haven't even thought about it, to be honest with you, I couldn’t tell you,” Ewers said.
The quarterback himself is focused on the mission, which is beating the Tigers on Saturday at Royal-Memorial Stadium. “Just like any other game,” Ewers said. “Just try to not build it up too much in my head and just try to go out there and play my game.”

Obviously, for some Texas fans, that’s an unacceptable answer. They demand more transparency from an individual who can never do anything right. Don’t think so? Just start doomscrolling.
But Ewers is the first quarterback in Texas history to lead the program to a league title and back-to-back CFP appearances. If he can guide the Horns to a national championship this season, he’ll instantly be right there alongside Vince Young and ahead of Colt McCoy.
The only thing that’s certain is Ewers is done wearing the ankle brace that he’s used the last two games. It’s unclear how that will or won’t help his mobility; Ewers simply isn’t a dynamic runner even when he’s 100%. But it’s a positive step that Ewers will be ready for Clemson.
“I think he's continually getting better,” Sarkisian said of Ewers’ health. “He came out of that Georgia game, SEC championship game, feeling better than he did going in. And that was a positive. That was a physical game.
“And so him without the brace on last week, running around was, was really encouraging.”
