NASHVILLE — Just eight teams remain in the first ever 12-team College Football Playoff with the quarterfinal games set to play next week.
For NFL fans, this is the perfect time to scout some of the nation’s top talent as they take center stage. But in case you need a guide for what names to watch out for, I’ve made things much easier.
Here are five superstar players that could end up joining the Tennessee Titans next season that will be playing in the College Football Playoff next week.
1. Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State
Abdul Carter is my favorite defensive talent in the draft class. He’s an uber athletic pass rusher with quickness, flexibility, and string instincts.
Carter has 22 sacks in his three-year career with the Nittany Lions with 11 of them coming in 2024.
The Titans could use a game changing talent on the defensive side of the ball and edge is a serious weakness at the moment. Carter will probably end up drafted in the Top 5, but if Tennessee misses out on a quarterback at the top of the draft, this would make a lot of sense.
NEXT GAME: (12/31) Vrbo Fiesta Bowl vs. #3 Boise State
2. Kelvin Banks, OT, Texas
While the 2025 draft class is weaker at offensive tackle than the previous class, there is still some intriguing talent that will be coming off the board in the Top 10.
One of the top tackles in the draft is Texas Longhorns left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. Banks is a three-year starter at Texas. He’s 9th overall on the consensus big board and the OT2.
The Titans have an obvious need on the offensive line. This pick could mean moving JC Latham back to the right side, and while I don’t think that would be the smartest thing for Tennessee to do, I don’t think it’s impossible.
If the Titans win a game before the end of the season and ruin their elite draft position, Banks is a name to watch.
NEXT GAME: (1/1) Chik-fil-A Peach Bowl vs. #4 Arizona State
3. Mykel Williams, EDGE, Georgia
Like Banks, Georgia Bulldogs defensive end Mykel Williams will likely only be considered by the Titans if Tennessee wins 1-2 more games before the end of the season.
Currently ranked 10th overall on the consensus big board, Williams isn’t the edge prospect that Carter is, but he brings exceptional size and speed to the table. That alone has him labeled as a “blue chip” edge player. I’m not sure he’ll rush the passer with the same success as Carter at the NFL level, but Williams should be an above-average run defender.
It’s not going to be the sexy pick for the Titans in the first round. But I don’t foresee Tennessee being in the range to draft Williams if things go as planned to end the regular season.
NEXT GAME: (1/1) Allstate Sugar Bowl vs. #7 Notre Dame
4. Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State
The Titans won’t be drafting Emeka Egbuka in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but the Ohio State senior could absolutely be in the conversation at the front of Round 2.
Egbuka had 1,151 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022, which was shockingly similar production to teammate Marvin Harrison Jr. with C.J. Stroud at quarterback. After a big step back in 2023 and a bottle with ankle injuries pushed him towards staying in school, Egbuka reestablished himself in 2024.
The 22-year-old has made 65 catches this season for 824 yards and 9 touchdowns. He is one of the better route-runners in this draft class.
Wide receiver is one of the most underrated needs the Titans will address this offseason. They need playmakers to compliment Calvin Ridley for whoever ends up playing quarterback in 2025. Egbuka is a solid second round option.
NEXT GAME: (1/1) Rose Bowl vs. #1 Oregon
5. Isaiah Bond, WR, Texas
Isaiah Bond is just 5’11” and 180 pounds, but lightning quick and one of the most explosive vertical threats in the draft.
Bond played for Alabama to start his college career before transferring to Texas in 2024. In Austin, Bond has been able to flash his speed despite not being in an ideal offense for his skillset. He is currently questionable for the Peach Bowl.
I anticipate Bond being a fast-riser after pre-draft testing. He could run a 4.2- in the 40-yard dash and turn heads like follow Longhorn Xavier Worthy did last year.
Add him to the list of Day 2 wide receivers that the Titans could target.
NEXT GAME: (1/1) Chik-fil-A Peach Bowl vs. #4 Arizona State
One future quarterback option the Tennessee Titans must avoid at all costs
Titans must avoid this future QB option.
