Even though the Chicago Bears are slated to play the Seattle Seahawks today, one day after Christmas Day, the team still managed to get brought up during the holiday festivities.
And no we're not talking about your uncle grilling you at the dinner table about another lost season for the Bears.
We're talking about another notable Chicago celebrity going out on a national stage to share what every other Bears' fan is thinking right now.
During the pregame show leading up to the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Christmas Day matchup on Netflix, WWE superstar and Chicago native CM Punk joined Laura Rutledge and the McCourty twins on the stage to help promote WWE Monday Night RAW's move to Netflix on January 6th.
While appearing on the set, Punk's hometown team was of course brought up and Punk did not hold back when sharing how he feels about the team's 4-11 season.
"Nothing’s gonna change until the McCaskeys sell the team," Punk proclaimed. "I've been there. Oh Lovie Smith's going to change the Bears. Oh [Mitch] Trubisky's going to change the Bears. And then we trade up and lose [Patrick] Mahomes… Mahomes right now, he'd be on the Bears."
Right after that comment, the crew on the set moved on from the subject.
Punk has every right to feel that way, as does every other Bears' fan and Chicago native. People are frustrated about the recent failures the Bears that continue to stack up and listening to the same ole song and dance every offseason about how the team is going to change, run the NFC North, and Blah Blah Blah.
After this season, fans are out of patience and want permanent change to happen. Unfortunately for Punk and those fans, Bears' owner Virginia McCaskey has shown no true interest in selling the team and the rest of the family likely won't want to either.
After George Halas’ death in 1983, the McCaskey family took control of the organization and the team has found minimal sustained success ever since.
This offseason will be a critical one for the McCaskey's and the entire organization to hopefully make the right moves to turn the Bears back around. For the McCaskey family, the biggest investment coming up will be the stadium of the future, but even that continues to be a major mess at the moment. The other major decision will be made by team president Kevin Warren and general manager Ryan Poles, who are assigned to find the next head coach of the Chicago Bears in the coming weeks.
That second decision will affect the future of the team more than a new stadium will. Warren believes the Bears will have the most coveted opening in the league and prominent coaching names are already showing interest in the position.
If the Bears can nail that hire and find success in 2025 with that new coach paired with franchise quarterback Caleb Williams, fans will start feeling a lot different about the organization and the owners.
But right now, it's easy to see why people like Punk feel the way they do about the Bears until something changes.
