The Philadelphia Eagles are more worried about wrapping up another NFC East title than the 2025 NFL Draft right now, but it's never too early to see what could in store for them when late April swings back around.
How about another Georgia player? 2024 provided a break for Bulldogs becoming Eagles, but Philadelphia drafted five from talents of college football's most talented powerhouse programs from 2022-23. Where would this defense be without the likes of Jalen Carter, Nakobe Dean, and Nolan Smith?
The next Bulldog-turned-Eagle might just be another edge defender like Smith. That's what A to Z Sports' Travis May paired Philly with in his latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft.
Eagles select Georgia EDGE Mykel Williams 28th overall in 2025 NFL Mock Draft
Williams, who won't turn 21 until next June, is one of the youngest players eligible for the upcoming draft. He's wrapping up his third year at Georgia and will play his 40th career game next week in the second round of the College Football Playoff.
2024 was not an ideal season for Williams. He suffered an ankle injury at the start of the season and missed two games because of it. His production as a whole suffered this year, which is why he could be available near the end of the first round.
"It's likely that we never got to see the third year Mykel Williams in his fullest, fittest form this season. He was dinged up throughout much of the year, but still managed to look absolutely dominant in a handful of games this season, especially in both bouts against Texas. He has all the raw traits to be a potential top ten NFL Draft pick. Williams just never put together a spectacular season (by the numbers) that typically coincides with early first round draft capital." – A to Z Sports' Travis May
Where a player lands in the draft matters a lot more than how early he goes off the board. The Eagles would be an ideal team for Williams not just because of their recent history drafting Georgia players, but for how effective they've been at developing pass rushers in general. Smith himself has taken a big leap in his second year, improving his pass rush win rate from 5.6% last season to 14.5% this season.
The future of the edge position for Philly is also a major question. The contracts of both Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham are about to expire, and the latter may've definitely played his last game for the birds.
You never want to be drafting for need so obviously, but Williams could be a value pick that also compensates for losses Philadelphia has to accept this offseason.
