The Oklahoma Sooners have lost so many players to the transfer portal, and most of it all happened on Monday when the portal opened officially. Some of those guys they lost were offensive linemen, too, a position group that just was not good for the Sooners last year. They would need to rebuild that group this offseason anyway, because of how bad they were, but now they definitely need to.

And, luckily for them, some really solid players have entered the transfer portal, some guys that the Sooners could really use.

On Monday, late at night, we found out that the Sooners had offered an offensive lineman a scholarship. But, it's a guy probably not too many people know about.

Sooners offer offensive lineman Derek Simmons

According to the player himself via Twitter/X, the Sooners have offered Derek Simmons a scholarship for 2025.

Derek Simmons, who's 6'6" and weighs 325 lbs, is a significant presence on the offensive line and is an offensive lineman who has played for Western Carolina University. He entered his name into the transfer portal, and the Oklahoma Sooners were very intrigued by what they saw on tape.

He played in 6 games during the 2023 season and 10 games during the 2024 season, starting in several of those games. His performance at WCU earned him a PFF grade of 77+ over the past two seasons.

Simmons is a graduate transfer and is looking to find a new team for his final year of eligibility. He has received offers from multiple Power Five schools, including Pitt, Houston, NC State, Michigan State, and Duke. He also planned visits to Texas Tech, Pittsburgh, and Georgia Tech.

Yes, he played at a small school, but there is a reason that all of these schools are interested in him. The Sooners may be ahead of the game here, as they are also scheduled to visit with another transfer offensive lineman.
