A lot has gone wrong for the Cleveland Browns during this season, which has them sitting at a record of 3-10. Now, the Browns have taken another hit.

Cleveland lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-14 in Week 14 and it is now known that they lost more than just a game. Late in the game, cornerback Greg Newsome II suffered another hamstring injury that has landed him on the injured reserve.

Additionally, the Browns waived WR Kadarius Toney following a disappointing game from him against the Steelers. Toney picked up a personal foul penalty shortly before muffing a punt against Pittsburgh. The Browns signed wide receivers Kaden Davis and Jaelen Gill, kicker Riley Patterson, and tackle Julian Pearl to the practice squad. Cleveland released DT Michael Dwumfour from the practice squad.

With just four games remaining this season, Newsome’s disappointing 2024 season has come to an end. It was the fourth season for Newsome as a pro, and he will have his fifth-year option to play on next year that the Browns already picked up.

Newsome had hamstring surgery during the preseason but has been able to play all 13 games for the Browns this season. The Northwestern product made 27 tackles and recorded his third career interception. According to Pro Football Focus, Newsome has a 52.2 grade for this season, which is 168 out of 213 cornerbacks. Newsome will be due a fully guaranteed $13.4 million for next season.

With Newsome out and rookie Myles Harden on the injured reserve, we are likely to see more of second-year cornerback Cameron Mitchell. Mitchell has played in 13 games this season and has made 12 tackles.

Again, it is an unfortunate ending to a season that didn’t go as planned for Newsome or the Browns. Newsome will have a chance to make his case for a long-term contract with the Browns once more next season.
