On Monday, the NCAA Transfer Portal officially opened and it has filled up quickly. Players around the country are entering left and right. Ohio State is showing interest in multiple players and has lost a few players to the portal as well.
The Buckeyes are showing major interest in one of the top defenders in the transfer portal and it is now known that they will be getting a visit from said player.
A to Z Sports broke news on Tuesday that Ohio State was one of the top schools in the running for Purdue safety transfer Dillon Thieneman. According to On3, Thieneman will be visiting Columbus next weekend.
Early in the cycle for the transfer portal, this is easily the biggest visit known for the Buckeyes at this time. Thieneman has two years of eligibility remaining after recording 100 tackles in each of his first two seasons with the Boilermakers. From Day 1 in college football, Thieneman has been one of the better safeties in the country. Now walking away from a bad Purdue team, Thieneman is going to be one of the most coveted players.
The other competitor to land Thieneman is no school other than Oregon. Oregon has been a thorn in the side for the Buckeyes on the high school recruiting trail lately and that looks like it is going to be the case in the portal as well. With Lathan Ransom off to the NFL when this season finishes up, Thieneman would be in line to start next to star safety Caleb Downs next season in Columbus if he were to choose Ohio State.
Thieneman intercepted six passes as a freshman after being a low-level recruit out of Indiana. This season, Thieneman recorded 104 tackles, 7 passes defended, and a sack. In the loss to Ohio State in early November, Thieneman stood out with 11 tackles.
Ohio State will be focusing on preparing for Tennessee next week and will host them next Saturday in the College Football Playoff. Off the field, the Buckeyes will be trying to land one of the best players that will enter the portal this cycle.
Ideally, Ohio State impresses Thieneman enough so that he never makes the visit to Oregon. That is easier said than done though, as the Ducks have really pushed the Buckeyes lately for defensive backs. Thieneman would be a big-time add for the Buckeyes and looks to be a future NFL player as soon as 2026.

This won’t sit well with the folks in Columbus.
