It was Jerry Jeudy’s night on Monday in Denver, even if the Cleveland Browns picked up loss No. 9 on the season.
In his return to the city that brought him into the NFL, Jeudy had the best game of his career. The breakout wide receiver had a 70-yard touchdown on his way to nine catches and 235 receiving yards. It was the kind of game that only Jeudy could dream having against the team that traded him for a couple later picks in the draft last offseason.
Still, the Browns fell by a score of 41-32, and two pick-sixes thrown by Browns quarterback Jameis Winston were back-breaking. However, Jeudy gave the Browns everything they could handle plus some. Cleveland’s top wide receiver had the perfect reaction to the crowd that was not so fond of him.
“There were a lot of boos huh? What [does] that mean? A lot of catches, too,” Jeudy said in the locker room after the game.
Cleveland put together a whopping 552 yards of total offense compared to 400 yards by the Broncos. The interceptions hurt, there were three in total thrown by Jameis Winston, who finished with 497 passing yards and four touchdowns. The Browns’ defense did not play very well, but the team did enough to win outside of the free giveaways.
Winning is most important in a team game and individual stats never come before it. Despite the huge game for Jeudy, he would trade it all for the Browns to be on the right side of things.
“Hell yeah, I would,” Jeudy said if he’d trade his night for a win. “They can have that. I need that W. That was one step closer to get to the playoffs. We need that.”
Cleveland can shut the door on any playoff hopes at 3-9 this season. However, they can still continue to build for the future and players like Jeudy give some excitement toward that.
