It’s difficult for a regular season game in Week 14 to be as valuable as this one will be. On Thursday night, the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers play at Ford Field with a lot at stake.
For the Lions, it’s a chance to basically take the rival away from the division title contention, and at the same time keep ahead in the battle to be the number one seed in the NFC. For the Packers, it’s the opportunity to show they belong in the top tier of NFL teams, keep fighting for the North, and virtually securing a playoff spot with four weeks to go.
Here at A to Z Sports, our NFC North writers teamed up to drop our predictions.

I think this one is going to be a close one, since both of these teams have seen each other once already. The Lions offense has slowed down a bit in recent weeks and while there are injuries on the defensive side for the Lions, they've been blown a bit out of proportion since the team still has the bulk of its starters out on the field. They've also continued to be solid without a lot of their guys. Ultimately, I think this one comes down to the wire and the Lions win with a Jake Bates' field goal.
Wendell Ferreira, Green Bay Packers writer
Packers 27, Lions 25
The Packers have been in several close games this year, and the results have been better than they were in 2023. Over the last few weeks, though, Green Bay is playing its best football, which includes Jordan Love. In their first matchup, the Packers beat themselves with so many mistakes, but the complementary football and physicality shown in the last few games, combined with the injuries on the Lions, are enough for me to think the Packers can win this one.

Packers 27, Lions 21
This matchup ultimately is going to mean more to the Packers than the Lions on Thursday Night Football. The Packers are playing like the hotter team despite the record between the two and a win in Detroit goes a long way in the NFC North race. Matt LaFleur and Jordan Love will also be looking to send a message after falling at home in a rainy affair the last time these two teams met. Health and momentum seem to be in the Packers' favor and will play a heavy role in this game.
Tyler Forness, Minnesota Vikings writer
Packers 28, Lions 25
This is an interesting game and one that is crucial to the NFC playoff race. The Detroit Lions have a one-game lead over the Minnesota Vikings and two-game lead over the Green Bay Packers with a win in hand over both teams. A win here would go a long way to securing the division and likely the first-round bye.
Where things get interesting here is when the Packers have the football. Jordan Love is only in his second season as a starting quarterback but has played teams significantly better the second time during the season, including last year when he beat the Lions on Thanksgiving. Pair that with the seemingly dozens of injuries on the Lions' defense and you have a recipe to shake up the NFC playoff picture in just one game.
