Ohio State fell to Michigan for the fourth straight time and the disappointing loss just feeds a narrative around Ryan Day.
Following the 13-10 loss, Day has beat Michigan just once and that was in 2019 with a team full of players recruited by Urban Meyer. A poor offensive performance for the Buckeyes took them away out of contention for the Big Ten Championship game.
The game was not played during 2020 due to COVID-19, so Ohio State has now gone a half-decade without beating the Wolverines.
Ohio State entered the fourth quarter with two missed field goals, two interceptions (one in the red zone), and one touchdown to one field goal. The abysmal offensive showing for Ohio State plagued them all day. When the Buckeyes did get into scoring position, they turned it over or settled more than once.
Jack Sawyer had a huge interception for Michigan on first-and-goal inside the Ohio State 5-yard line that ended Michigan’s best drive of the day that lasted 16 plays. It was a huge moment for Sawyer, who knows how bad it is losing against Michigan.
"This game means everything to me and the brothers and the coaching staff that are behind me right now," Tate said at the Skull Session this morning. "We fought like hell to get back to this spot that we are in right now. My one message that I have today, man, is to make the Horseshoe the loudest and the most hostile environment in the country."
Ohio State did nothing with the interception and punted to Michigan, who went down to kick a game-winning field goal. The most important thing that Michigan did on the drive was run the clock down to 48 seconds.
Two interceptions and just one touchdown pass by Will Howard was not the way he wanted his only matchup to go against Michigan. An all-around disaster for the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes have not won a Big Ten Championship since 2020 and are 2-4 in bowl games under Ryan Day. All of the pressure was on Day to get this win and Ohio State failed to do just that. The noise is going to be loud now, but it will be even louder if the Buckeyes drop a dud in the College Football Playoff.
Urban Meyer has an urgent warning for folks around the Ohio State vs. Michigan game
The Buckeyes can not underestimate.
