Texas HC Steve Sarkisian blasts what is supposed to be the Aggies’ biggest advantage at Kyle Field
Sarkisian on crowd noise not being a factor: ‘I was really probably anticipating more’
Texas A&M takes great pride in making Kyle Field one of the loudest places in college football.
On Saturday, the Longhorns made sure the place was church quiet.
No. 3 Texas took a 17-point lead, and the defense pitched a complete-game shutout in knocking off rival A&M before an announced crowd of 109,028. It was the third-largest crowd in Kyle Field history, but the towel-waiving Aggies gave up and left once UT secured a 17-7 win.
“I don’t think the environment caused us any issues. It really didn’t,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said. “And I’m not trying to demean anything. I was really probably anticipating more.

“I mean, I built it up in my own head to make sure we could handle whatever it was. But man, our players were so composed, so poised, so together, that I don’t think any of the guys were enamored with the crowd and the noise and the music.
“They were really just focused on, what is my job on this play? And let me try to do my job to the best of my ability.”
It’s not like Saturday’s game was the first time Texas had been in a big stadium. The Horns played before another hostile crowd of 100,000-plus in September when they beat the Michigan Wolverines in the Big House.
Texas played in front of 100,000 people all season long at Royal-Memorial Stadium, too. Next week’s SEC championship game against Georgia will actually be a smaller crowd than Saturday.
The Horns have now won 11 straight true road games, the longest streak in the nation. To think they were just going to fold because of the noise is ridiculous.
Outside of a few second-half issues, Sarkisian said, “I really thought we dominated the football game, and we were completely in control of the game. I thought our guys showed great poise and composure in the arena, and even when adversity struck man, they hung together.”
