For the first time since firing head coach Matt Eberflus on Friday, a Chicago Bears' player has spoken publicly following the major decision over the weekend.
That player was rightfully star wide receiver DJ Moore, who appeared on the Mully & Haugh Show on 670 The Score on Monday.
During his guest appearance on the show, Moore weighed in on why he believes Eberflus was fired and what the expectations are going to be under new interim head coach Thomas Brown during the final five weeks of the season.
"He is a great leader. He brings the juice every day," Moore said about Brown. "He gets everybody going like his energy is really felt between everybody in the locker room; offense, defense, and special teams too. So I'm looking forward to see how he leads the team these last few weeks, and go from there."
The next five weeks will be a pseudo-interview for Brown to prove himself as a potential head coach candidate in Chicago before the organization begins the true search for the team's next head coach.
Brown was already promoted once earlier in November after the team decided to part ways with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. Immediately under Brown, the unit saw major improvements over the last three weeks. However, with Brown now elevated to a new role again, many fans are worried the change will have a negative effect on the progress the offense has made due to Brown moving from the booth to the sideline as the acting head coach.
Moore isn't worried about those potential concerns.
"I don't think it matters, because he played in NFL. He played the game of football for a long time. So I know his view of the game and from up top may be different, but him calling the game shouldn't be different, so I don't think that might be different," Moore explained.
As for why Eberflus was fired in the first place, Moore put the cause on the same thing many people outside of the building were pointing to.
"A few times [accountability was an issue]. But I mean, we still gotta go out there and execute and do the things that we do, but if it falls down on us, we take accountability. If it falls down on the coaches, they should take accountability," Moore said. "So, I mean, it's give and take, and if they think he wasn't taking accountability, then that's what it is."
Even though Brown will have a leg up in the coaching search for the Bears during the next five weeks, the team clearly has specific traits they're looking for, something that was even relayed to the players.
"They already said they're looking for a leader of men that's going to get this team turned around and winning," Moore added. "Whoever it is at the end of the day, we're gonna have to stand by it and play hard for the coach."
As for the qualities Moore is hoping for in his next coach, he just wants to see someone who has accountability, is stern, and understanding of their mindset.
Later today, team president Kevin Warren, general manager Ryan Poles and interim head coach Thomas Brown will all address the media for the first time at Halas Hall.
