The Los Angeles Chargers are playing some of the best football in the AFC. Their defense looks rejuvenated, and the offense is making enough plays to keep the pressure on their opponents.
Even dealing with some notable injuries on both sides of the ball, LA is finding ways to win under Jim Harbaugh.
The new head coach for the powder blue will get a huge chance to add talent in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. As of now, the Chargers sit in a playoff spot, so their projected draft slot is a bit later than in recent years.
Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus unveiled a three-round mock draft this week, ahead of Week 14 action.
Chargers' picks
25. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS: DL KENNETH GRANT, MICHIGAN
This pick isn’t about stereotypes, even though Jim Harbaugh recruited and developed Grant at Michigan and once called him a “gift from the football gods.” It just makes sense. Harbaugh prioritizes strength in the trenches, and with Khalil Mack and Poona Ford — key contributors to the Chargers' strong run defense — set to hit free agency, reinforcements are needed.
Grant isn’t your typical 335-pound defensive tackle; he’s more athletic than most at his size and has earned an impressive 87.5 run-defense grade this season.
Clearly, Harbaugh is a fan of the young defensive lineman. Poona Ford has really come along this season for Los Angeles, but they could lose him in free agency.
Even if not, adding a player like Grant alongside Ford and the rest of their DL would create som incredible depth for the Chargers defense. Not to mention, the Michigan to Los Angeles pipeline may remain strong this year and next due to Harbaugh's connections with the college's talent.
57. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS: RB KALEB JOHNSON, IOWA
Adding a running back in round two is a bit risky, but Harbaugh's offense wants to have a strong running game. Even with immense trust in Justin Herbert, they don't want to put all the pressure on the quarterback.
J.K. Dobbins has played good football this season, but he has also been banged up. With his injury history, running back will most likely be addressed once again in the upcoming offseason.
Gus Edwards is the only other veteran option on the team as of now, and he is simply a depth sort of runner as of now in his career.
89. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS: TE HAROLD FANNIN JR., BOWLING GREEN
Fannin is one of the most undervalued prospects in this class. He's been immensely productive in college, and his receiving ability would adad a new layer to the Chargers offense.
Fannin's 100 receptions in 12 games this season ranks second all-time in the regular season by an FBS Tight End behind James Casey's (Rice) 104 in 2008. He's been a machine this season, and not enough people know his name.
This trio of prospects would be a great group to add to the Chargers roster. We will see if any of them are on their radar in the spring.
