AFC North football on Thursday night was everything you could have hoped for. The Cleveland Browns hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers in the snowiest game of the season to date.

In the end, the Cleveland Browns’ 2-8 record did not matter and they delivered the first-place team in the AFC North their first loss of the season. Cleveland scored a late touchdown to take the 24-19 win over the Steelers.

Cleveland would not have been in a position to win the game if it was not for their star defender stepping up in a big way.

Last year’s Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett put a special performance together against the Steelers. Garrett recorded three sacks and a forced fumble against Pittsburgh. The most impressive thing was that Garrett did all that damage in the first half.

This week Garrett was asked about Steelers edge T.J. Watt not being very accepting of Garrett winning last year’s Defensive Player of the Year award. Garrett responded in a way that aligned with his character and instead allowed his game to make the point.

“I’ve never complained about the trophy not being in my house and vice versa, he shouldn’t be feeling two ways about it going to me,” Garrett said. “We’re just gonna play the game. I don’t play against T.J. He doesn’t play against me. We’re playing to do what we’re supposed to, go out and do what we’re supposed to, win the game, and dominate on defense.”

It must be pointed out that the Browns did not allow Watt to register a single sack against them. Cleveland was forced to start third-string tackle Germain Ifedi at left tackle.

Coming into the game, Garrett had seven sacks to his credit in 10 games played. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year became just the seventh player in the NFL to record 10 sacks in seven straight seasons. After not recording a stat in the loss to the New Orleans Saints last week, Garrett stepped up right when the Browns needed him to.

Before the bye week, Garrett had three sacks against the Los Angeles Chargers. Overall, it is the third game this season where Garrett has had more than one sack.

Players like Garrett don’t come around often. A defender who has the ability to really change the game and even take over a game at times. The Browns have a future Hall of Fame defensive end on their roster and this win is another example of why he is just that.
