Raiders' offense has seen a large amount of success when they run a play they should be doing way more often

The Las Vegas Raiders, for two years in a row now, have one of the worst offenses in all of the NFL. In fact, you could say the worst, and prove that point to be true in many cases. But, they are improving, despite the win-loss record not showing that. All it took was to fire former Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears offensive staffer Luke Getsy.

They made Scott Turner the interim offensive coordinator with Norv Turner, his father and former Raiders head coach, an assistant to help call plays from the press box. Now, the offense looks more fluid with better play-calling.

And, they have run a few plays that seem to be really working for them, especially in the run game. We all know this was and basically still is one of the worst run games in the league. But, the Raiders did something in their last game that opened up the run game a bit, and it was very efficient.

They ran the ball with both Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker on plays that weren't exactly normal run plays, but jet sweeps and things of that nature, and it worked. And, it's worked pretty much every time they have done it, besides the times they had penalties.

Here is what the Raiders PR team tweeted about the runs during the game, showing how successful they are:

WR Jakobi Meyers logged a 20-yard run in the Raiders opening offensive drive. Since joining the Raiders in 2023, Meyers has rushed 6 times for 47 yards (7.8 avg.) and 2 TDs. His 7.8 yards per carry ranks 11th in the NFL since 2023 among WRs (min. 5 att.). WR Tre Tucker logged a 7-yard rush in the opening drive for the Raiders offense. Since entering the league in 2023, Tucker has rushed 16 times for 113 yards (7.1 avg.) and one touchdown. Among WRs with 15+ carries in the NFL since 2023, his 7.1 yards per carry ranks 3rd.

For Meyers, he lined up in the wide back slot, or you could even say as a full back after being motioned in from the outside, and as he was stopping and getting in his stance, he was handed off the ball on a sweep play in the first quarter on a third and one. The play went for 20 yards.

Also in the first quarter, they ran a jet sweep for Tre Tucker that went for seven yards. His speed makes it very easy to get positive yards out of those plays.

Now, they can't just spam this play like you can in Madden and it works every time. But, they could throw in some misdirections here and there along with some fake sweeps, which would allow them to be able to run more of these plays. This is effective when they do it, and with a run game as bad as this one they may as well try it more often.

The Raiders play the Denver Broncos next after their loss to the Miami Dolphins. After that, they will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City.
