The Washington Commanders (7-4) are moving on from the most recent loss to the Philadelphia Eagles (8-2), but the NFL gave star linebacker Frankie Luvu one more reason to reflect on the game after it fined him for unnecessary roughness in Week 11.
The fine stems from a hit Luvu placed on Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith with :44 left in the third quarter. It looked like Luvu grabbed Smith's facemask, but the referees decided that wasn't the case after talking about it on the field. He wasn't flagged for the hit, but he was still fined $11,255, per the NFL's Gameday Accountability log.
It's a pretty questionable call on the NFL's end and honestly, Luvu has a strong case for appeal. The NFL rescinded Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith's fine for a supposed hip-drop tackle on Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin a couple of weeks ago, so there's certainly precedent when it comes to waiving the fine.
Luvu has been great for the Commanders, this year. He's third on the team in total tackles with 71, but he also has 7.0 sacks on the year, which is both second on the team and tied for 13th-most in the NFL. He's also added two pass deflections, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries on the year.
Washington kicks off its Week 12 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys at 1p.m. ET on Sunday.
