The more that is reported about what is going on at 1 Jets Drive, the less likely I think the Jets will be able to dig themselves out of the hole they find themselves in. Woody Johnson might be the worst owner in the NFL and the worst owner in New York, and he is competing with James Dolan!

After firing their head coach after five games, and then firing their GM earlier this week during their bye week, now reports are surfacing that Woody Johnson in his infinite football wisdom, has lost complete confidence in Aaron Rodgers to lead the Jets and plans to move on from the 40-year-old quarterback soon.

How soon? According to a report from Dianna Russini at the Athletic, Rodgers could be placed on injured reserve or possibly benched over the next few weeks in favor of Tyrod Taylor. Things have gotten so bad, that some around the league say they won’t be surprised if Rodgers is cut in-season.

For Rodgers, Russini believes that he wants to play in 2025, just not for the Jets. And who could blame him. Rodgers hasn’t played well this season, and he might be completely washed, but it was Woody Johnson who handed him the keys to the Jets, and we shouldn’t blame Rodgers for taking advantage. If Rodgers wanted something, he got it. So, why not keep asking for things?

I’m not sure what the market for Rodgers will look like in 2025 considering what he put on tape this year, but I’m sure someone will understand when he says “the Jets and Woody Johnson are a disaster and I can do much better here”.  This may spark a new sports bar debate: did the Jets ruin Aaron Rodgers' reputation, or did he ruin it with the Jets?

If Rodgers is cut before June 1st, he will carry a $49 million dead cap hit in 2025. If he is a post June 1st cut, he will be a $14 million cap hit in 2025 and a $35 million dead cap hit in 2026. Personally, I would just take my lumps in 2025 as I attempt to right the ship that has gone so far off course. The Davante Adams contract will actually alleviate some of the financial hardships the Jets will face next season.

Things are getting so bad in Florham Park, that according to sources there is a sense of relief when you are fired. At least, that’s how former GM Joe Douglas felt.

An NFL executive close to Douglas shared that the former Jets GM felt a sense of “relief” after his dismissal, particularly from the challenges of working under Woody Johnson. That same executive shared that, just hours after being fired, Douglas went fishing at the Jersey Shore, enjoying a stress-free environment after navigating several turbulent years with the organization. “It’s the happiest he’s sounded in a long time.”

This season the Jets went from a contender to a circus, to a disaster, to full on tragedy. And it’s not even Thanksgiving yet. But don’t worry Jets fans, Woody Johnson will get it all figured out.
