The second game under offensive coordinator Thomas Brown ended with a similar result for the Chicago Bears but you can certainly see the improvement from his unit.

For the second week in a row, the Bears nearly topped 400 yards of offense while playing at a high level against top defenses in the league.

Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings was even more impressive than the week before after adding in a new wrinkle to the offense.

For what seems like the first time all season, we finally got to see rookie quarterback Caleb Williams show off his arm talent and hit throws down the field. Now, the unit still relied heavily on short-quick passes, but they also took advantage of the big plays when the defense opened up the field.

As a result, Williams finished his day 32/47 passing for 340 yards and two touchdowns and zero turnovers. Williams was seemingly making play after play and hitting on insane throws all over the field while adding a team-high 33 yards on the ground.

"Those are all things that are just really good quarterbacking," head coach Matt Eberflus said after the game. "He's growing in front of our eyes. And today was a really good growth for him, to be able to go out there and execute the way he did and be able to get those drives going at the end to put us in position to win the game."

The growth the last two weeks under Brown's guidance and play-calling has especially been evident because he's allowing Williams to play to his strengths.

"He's just has a certain aura to him that just allows you to play free," Williams said about Brown after the game. "Being able to play free, I think there's been times, like last game, when it gets to two minute, and like today, now it's time to go be Superman and go do all those different things that I can do, but throughout the game, play the right way. That's what he tells me in the headset, 'go be Superman' at the end of the game."

Brown recognizes that he has a special talent running his offense and he's letting him be special by letting him rip the ball when the time is right. Just look at this week's passing chart from Williams and the big throws he was able to hit on.

The new wrinkle being shown by the offense is by allowing Williams to stretch the ball and attack the deep areas of the field. The furthest completion on that chart was this 27-yard completion to DJ Moore that set up the field goal to force overtime.

When the situation matters most, Brown is putting the ball and his faith into the hands of his quarterback to make the play. That's something Shane Waldron failed to do.
