This season hasn’t gone right for the Cleveland Browns but the win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last Thursday night made things feel a bit better. Still, the Browns are a 3-8 football team that won’t be in the playoffs this season.

Once again, the Browns lost quarterback Deshaun Watson for the season and were forced to turn to a backup. Jameis Winston has helped uplift the offense some just like Joe Flacco did last season.

Cleveland has no answer at their quarterback position going forward after this season. It is now known what kind of interest they would have in veteran quarterback Daniel Jones, who was recently released by the New York Giants.

According to Mary Kay Cabot, it is not likely that the Browns attempt to sign the former Giants starter.

“The Browns are not believed to have interest in Jones, even though they must address their quarterback room for next season. Conversely, the Browns might not be high on Jones’ list at this time.” – Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com.

After this season there are still two years guaranteed on Deshaun Watson’s contract. It is unclear what the Browns plan to do there, but he has proven that he can not be the starting quarterback in Cleveland. The time has come for the Browns to accept they made the worst trade in NFL history. Jones had to clear waivers first, then he became available to sign with any team.

Jones had 2,070 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 10 starts this season. A 2-8 record for Jones was enough for the Giants to part ways and move on. In his six seasons with the Giants, Jones started 69-of-70 total games he played and completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 14,582 yards. Jones has a 70-47 touchdown to interception ratio for his career.

At this point, Jones is likely to sign with a contender for the rest of the season. There are no starting jobs on a contending team available, so it will be a backup role for Jones if he does that route.

With the position the Browns have put themselves in, it has to be asked if there is interest every time a quarterback becomes available. It looks like the Browns will set this one out.
