The Game will be heated, even the Ohio State Buckeyes are big favorites entering this week's action. Michigan vs. Ohio State is always about winning within the margins and playing with a mental edge. The Wolverines are far less talented than Ohio State this year, but maybe, head games can close the gap.
That's the hope as the week begins. With star Michigan cornerback Will Johnson getting a surprisingly bad injury update last week, where ESPN's Pete Thamel reported his days playing college football are over, it's hard to know if that is true or not. Johnson had been dealing with a toe injury but was expected to return.
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore has changed his tune multiple times.
“Yeah. I just go by what the doctors say,” the Michigan coach said. “I can’t confirm or say anything else but what the doctors tell us.”
However, look at these two posts that capture Moore's stance on Johnson and star tight end Colston Loveland.
If Johnson is unable to play, Michigan will have to depend on corners Aamir Hall and Jyaire Hill, although Hill had limited action against Northwestern. Moore mentioned that they were addressing the situation with the sophomore “internally,” but he expressed satisfaction with the performance of the other corners during the game against the Wildcats.
The fallout has been playing out on social media. Michigan fans are upset, saying that Johnson simply took the NIL money and then sat out whenever it's been convenient for him to prepare for the NFL. While I think that's unfair, sitting out The Game when you're healthy and your team is a major underdog is as weak as it gets.
