The Green Bay Packers are losing off-ball linebacker Jamin Davis to the Minnesota Vikings twenty-eight days after signing him to the practice squad. The Vikings signed the former first-round pick off the Packers' practice squad.

Davis, the 19th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, is a versatile defender. He was drafted as an off-ball linebacker by the Washington Commanders and played primarily as such in his first three seasons in the league. Even though he slightly progressed throughout his career, he failed to reach the expectations. Earlier this year, the Commanders moved him to edge rusher, but it didn't pan out and he was released.

The Packers tried to develop him on the practice squad, but the Vikings decided the investment was Worth the cost. Green Bay could have offered Davis a spot on the 53-man roster or not, but Davis was ultimately free to decide his future.

Bad news

This move comes at a particularly bad timing for the Packers because Edgerrin Cooper missed the San Francisco 49ers game with a hamstring injury. It's unclear if he will recover in time to play the Miami Dolphins on Thursday. Moreover, Isaiah McDuffie has an ankle injury and was listed as not practicing on Monday's estimation.

Besides them, the Packers only have Quay Walker, Eric Wilson, and Ty'Ron Hopper on the 53-man roster at the position, and there aren't any linebackers on the practice squad.

If the Packers need to add some depth, a realistic possibility is Chris Russell, who spent training camp time with Green Bay and was on the practice squad until the Packers' decision to sign Davis.
