The Minnesota Vikings haven't stopped making moves to improve their depth. On Wednesday, they signed quarterback Daniel Jones to the practice squad.

On the surface, Jones isn't a franchise starting quarterback, but nobody understands the pain of having to play multiple quarterbacks in a season like the Vikings. In 2023, the Vikings started four quarterbacks after Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles tendon in week nine against the Green Bay Packers.

Jones was waived by the Giants last week after being benched by the Giants. They had planned to move off of him this offseason and Jones asked for his release. He wanted to go to a playoff team and that's exactly what he got with the Vikings.

Right now, he starts on the practice squad which is a smart move for both parties. It's a move for both now and the future, as the Vikings will need a veteran backup next year for J.J. McCarthy and potentially one for Sam Darnold if they decide to keep him. If the two sides part ways after the season, there is the possibility of a comp pick coming Minnesota's way.

Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah continues to be a forward thinker with this move.
