It's difficult to know what to make out of the latest injury news surrounding the Dallas Cowboys' Thanksgiving showdown against the New York Giants: Tommy DeVito is a "longshot" to play as he nurses a right forearm injury, per Jordan Raanan from ESPN.

DeVito won't travel with the Giants to Dallas and missed Wednesday's practice.

The news means Drew Lock is suddenly the projected starter for Thursday against Cooper Rush's Cowboys. And although this means the Giants are down to their third-stringer, I can't help but wonder, is it far fetched to perceive Lock as their best QB?

DeVito wasn't looking great for the Giants anyways, showing some significant accuracy issues against an aggressive Tampa Bay Buccaneers that kept him pressured for most of the game last weekend. DeVito was consistently forced to check it down, averaging 3.9 yards per attempt when under pressure, per PFF.

To be fair, Lock hasn't done anything to be considered particularly dangerous either. In 2023, he had ups and downs in two starts for the Seattle Seahawks as he completed 63% of his attempts while going 3-3 in touchdowns and interceptions.

Regardless of who's better, the news throws a wrench into the Cowboys' short week prep as they were probably expecting DeVito to be ready to go following the Giants' optimistic statements earlier in the week, when they revealed they were hopeful he could go on Thursday.

At the end of the day, the Cowboys defense should have the upper hand over the Giants offense. The Giants OL ranks 21st on pass block win rate and the Cowboys have looked like a totally different pass rush unit with Micah Parsons back in the lineup.

The Giants were particularly vulnerable versus the blitz and as long as the Cowboys force Lock into dropback situations, they should be successful against the struggling offense.
