Latest NFL news and notes: Daniel Jones signs with Vikings, Aaron Rodgers’ 2025 plans

Sep 8, 2024; East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA; New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones (8) drops back to pass as Minnesota Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel (43) applies pressure during the first half at MetLife Stadium.

Below are bits of the latest relevant news and tidbits from around the NFL:

  • Daniel Jones to Vikings: That didn’t take long. The former New York Giants quarterback signed with Minnesota, declaring that he wanted to play for a contender. Considering Sam Darnold’s strong play this season, this is looking to be mostly a move for the future.
  • Aaron Rodgers’ 2025 plans: The New York Jets QB changed his tune a bit, noting that he hasn’t decided whether he wants to play in 2025. He did, however, reiterate that if he does return he would like to play for the Jets.
  • Shaq Barrett returns: A surprising development, as the Miami Dolphins edge rusher has come out of retirement and will begin play imminently. A big boost for the ‘Phins.
  • Analyzing changes in the RB market: Our guy Wendell Ferreira made an interesting observation about the NFL’s overcorrection in the running back market, and how that has affected the way NFL teams value and pay top talent at the position.
  • 2025 mock draft: Ryan Roberts’ latest mock is a three-rounder with some surprise selections.
  • Thanksgiving fun: A couple of Kansas City Chiefs stars squared off in a Thanksgiving edition of “start, bench, cut.” Meanwhile, our guy Adam Holt put in some real journalistic work and compared New Orleans Saints players to Thanksgiving dishes.

Notable injury news: Chiefs get help, 49ers need help

Here’s the latest notable injury news in the NFL:

  • Chiefs bring back some studs: Finally, the Chiefs plan to bring back RB Isiah Pacheco and defensive end Charles Omenihu on Friday vs. the Las Vegas Raiders. Meanwhile, receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown continues to tease his inevitable return.
  • 49ers’ injury report remains scary: San Francisco went without QB Brock Purdy, DE Nick Bosa and left tackle Trent Williams last week, among others. Now, this week, those guys are in jeopardy of missing yet another game. Meanwhile, 49ers linebacker Fred Warner admitted that he has been playing most of the season on a fractured ankle.
  • Eagles DE Brandon Graham: A big blow to a team that has been having a great season — Philly has lost Graham for the rest of the season due to torn triceps. It has been tough for Graham who has tried to remain positive but definitely showed some moments of (understandable) vulnerability during a recent interview.
  • Raiders QBs Aidan O’Connell, Gardner Minshew: O’Connell will start vs. the Chiefs on Friday, a decision made after Minshew went down with a broken collarbone which ended his season.
  • Lions RB David Montgomery, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown: Detroit’s stars are both questionable heading into Thursday’s game vs. the Chicago Bears.
  • Cowboys QB Cooper Rush, WR Brandin Cooks: After a brief injury scare, Rush is good to go Thursday, and he’ll get an early Christmas present as well — Cooks is set to return and make his season debut.
  • Giants QBs Tommy DeVito, Drew Lock: It’s a “long shot” for DeVito to play Thursday, so if he doesn’t go then Drew Lock will get the start vs. Dallas.
  • Commanders CB Marshon Lattimore: He plans to practice this week for the first time since Washington traded for him a few weeks ago, meaning he could be on track to play soon.
  • Packers starters: Green Bay will be without three starters on Thursday — CB Jaire Alexander, LB Edgerrin Cooper and WR Romeo Doubs. Center Josh Myers is questionable.
  • Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins: He sprained his knee this past weekend and will miss Week 13 (and possibly more time).
