It's the second short week of the 2024 NFL season for the Dallas Cowboys, an unwanted result of playing on Thanksgiving. Just like on their Thursday Night Football matchup back in Week 4, they'll play the New York Giants.
Both teams enter the game banged up, with each team playing backup quarterbacks and missing at least one starting offensive lineman.
Ninety minutes before kickoff, the teams have announced their inactive players and for the Cowboys, the name to monitor was Trevon Diggs: The All-Pro cornerback will be inactive for the second consecutive week with a knee/groin injury.
That means it'll be another important game for Josh Butler, a former UFL player whose standout performance from last Sunday earned him a captainship for this game. Expect the Cowboys' cornerbacks to be challenged by Malik Nabers early and often on this one.
- DE Marshawn Kneeland
- RG Zack Martin
- TE Jake Ferguson
- WR Ryan Flournoy
- DE Tyrus Wheat
- RB Deuce Vaughn
- CB Andrew Booth Jr.
More notes on Cowboys' inactives
- A big break for WR Jalen Brooks. The second-year player was benched a couple of weeks ago as he was a healthy scratch over rookie Ryan Flournoy. Now, it's Flournoy as a healthy scratch instead. Last week, Brooks played and even made a clutch catch for Cooper Rush. With Jonathan Mingo on the roster and Brandin Cooks coming back, the rookie is the odd man out.
- Zack Martin will miss another game, however, Tyler Smith is set to return to the field. Brock Hoffman got the start at right tackle last weekend but I wonder if we some T.J. Bass in there instead.
- Jake Ferguson is out once again, so expect a lot of Luke Schoonmaker on this one. He improved as a pass catcher last weekend but he's got to be better as a blocker, where he cost his team some key opportunities.
Giants inactives
As expected, the Giants will be without QB Tommy DeVito as a starter, but he'll be acting as the third emergency QB. They're also down starting RT Jermaine Eluemunor, something Micah Parsons should be able to exploit throughout the game.
