The Kansas City Chiefs continue to find random ways to win football games.
Sitting with an 11-1 record, the Chiefs have won just two games by more than one score: 26-13 over the New Orleans Saints and 28-18 over the San Francisco 49ers. The rest of them have been by one score.
It's a not-too-dissimilar path to the 11 wins in one score games that the Minnesota Vikings took in 2022 when analysts across the National Football League were calling them fraudulent. However, the Chiefs are better than that, as they don't have any losses by double digits whereas the Vikings had multiple embarrassing blowouts in their four losses.
The final play for the Las Vegas Raiders offense was a crazy one, as center Jackson Powers-Johnson snapped the ball when Aidan O'Connell wasn't ready for it and the Chiefs recovered the ball.
There was some controversy after the play, as it appears that the side judge is running in from the sidelines to signal for a false start.
A false start would have automatically meant that the play was dead and it wouldn't have counted. After the game, The Athletic's Tashan Reed spoke to NFL executive Michael Signora about the play and he cleared up why it was deemed an illegal shift and not a false start.
"Had the clock been running at the snap, then by rule an illegal shift would convert to a false start. Since the clock was stopped (spike on the 2nd down play), an illegal shift is a live ball foul."
The frustration from Raiders fans is more than fair, as it felt like the Chiefs lucked out in a huge way. Well, they did, but it wasn't because the ruling was unfair.
How will the Chiefs find a way to win their next game?
