The next month is huge for Ryan Day and Ohio State, which everyone knows. After being upset by Michigan and dropping their fourth straight game to the Wolverines, the pressure is on for Ohio State to perform well in the College Football Playoff.

Day is 66-10 at Ohio State and that number is excellent. But it is the four losses to Michigan and the constraint shortcomings that have the pressure on Day. Despite athletic director Ross Bjork coming out recently and giving his support of Day, his seat should still be hot heading into the playoff.

Yesterday, news broke that former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was showing interest in the vacant North Carolina head football coach job. It was a shock to most people, but what if it was for the bigger picture? Brooks Austin of Sports Illustrated said he is showing interest in that job with other intentions.

No one expects Belichick, 72, to make the jump to college. However, if a powerhouse job like the one in Columbus opens, it could be exactly what he wants. This is all hypothetical thinking, but it can not be ruled out. We are in a different age of college football, where amateurism doesn’t exist so much anymore. Players are being paid and rosters are managed more like the pros now. Potentially, this could open the door for a guy like Belichick to want to make the leap.

Belichick has proven everything he needs to with the game of football. Known as the best NFL coach of this generation, Belichick has won six Super Bowls in his coaching career. After coaching the Patriots for 23 years, the two sides parted ways following the 2023 season. Now, Belichick is involved in multiple media gigs in his free time.

First, the job would have to come open and that means the Buckeyes would have to fire Day, who took over for Urban Meyer in 2019. Ohio State has always recruited well and that should continue with the brand and money being pumped in. Recruiting may not be an attractive part of the job for Belichick, but he would probably build a strong staff around him to help with those efforts. As mentioned, recruiting today has a ton to do with how big the bag is, let’s be honest.

As far-fetched as it may seem to some, Belichick making the leap to college isn’t out of the realm of possibilities. He has proven everything he needs to in the NFL, so why not try to win at the college level? There are not really any high-profile jobs open right now at the college level, but there could be. And Ohio State could be one of those.

If the Buckeyes can bounce back and win a National Championship, all of the talk about Day being let go will go by the wayside. However, if the Buckeyes don’t make a run, expect pressure to mount around that job from fans and even boosters.
