Sharp raised some eyebrows when the Sooners pursued him so heavily out of the portal last year. That move backfired, as Sharp consistently failed to deliver any sort of positive impact on the team this year.

The Sooners will need to take multiple player at tight end with Sharp and Jake Roberts both leaving (as well as some other potential departures yet to be announced), and they have already been linked to and offered a tight end.

Their most recent offer at tight end is a local player. The Sooners officially offered former Tulsa Golden Hurricane Luke McGary. This season at Tulsa, he totaled 17 receptions, 231 yards, and one touchdown.

The Sooners aren't the only ones interested in McGary, however. He entered the portal just a few days ago but has already picked up offers from Texas State, Cal, Duke, Houston, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, NC State, Georgia Tech, BYU, Washington, and Colorado (as of the time of this writing).

His stats don't jump off the page (17 receptions, 231 yards, and just one touchdown) but it requires some context before any Oklahoma fans jump to conclusions. Those yards were third on the team this season (on a bad offense). Believe it or not, McGary had the most yards of any Tulsa tight end since 2011. Yes, that's the state of Tulsa right now.

I flipped through some of his film before writing this, and it didn't take me long to see why the Sooners and so many other schools have offered him.

He's an effective blocker, something the Sooners didn't have at all this season. Tulsa uses him as an extra lineman at times (fourth-most true pass sets in the country), and he delivers consistently as a blocker. McGary isn't the greatest athlete you'll see at tight end, but he works open and is a reliable target. In his career as a two-year starter, he has just one drop. He's shown good ball skills and he knows how to use his frame to attack the ball in the air.

McGary enters the portal with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
