Losing in the NFL is never fun, neither are constant losing streaks you can't seem to break no matter how many changes you make.
The good news is, the more you lose in the NFL, the closer you are to securing a top pick in the upcoming NFL draft and using that pick to make your team better in the long run.
On Sunday, the Chicago Bears lost their seventh consecutive game and continued to plummet down the draft boards. Right now, that's not something the team would like to hear or think about. Come April, that bad thing has a chance to turn into a good thing.
Following the Bears' 38-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14, the Bears are now on track to finish the season with a Top-10 pick in the first round for the third year in a row. Currently, the Bears are 4-9 on the season and slated to have the ninth overall pick in the NFL Draft, according to Tankathon.
The Bears had the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and traded back one spot to select right tackle Darnell Wright. In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Bears' own selection was again the ninth overall pick, used to select wide receiver Rome Odunze.
Obviously this is a trend the entire organization would love to buck one day, but right now the thought of adding another Top-10 prospect to the roster is enticing, and the Bears could end up with an even higher selection.
Right now, six other teams ahead of the Bears on the draft board are 3-10 on the season with four weeks left to go. Here's the current Top-10 order for the 2025 NFL Draft with one game left to be played in Week 13.
1. Las Vegas Raiders (2-11)
2. New York Giants (2-11)
3. New England Patriots (3-10)
4. Carolina Panthers (3-10)
5. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-10)
6. Tennessee Titans (3-10)
7. New York Jets (3-10)
8. Cleveland Browns (3-10)
9. Chicago Bears (4-9)
10. Cincinnati Bengals (4-8 pending MNF)
Ideally, you'd like to the Bears turn things around with interim head coach Thomas Brown and end the season on a high note over the final four games. But, if the Bears continue to spiral down the list, at least another top prospect will find their way to Chicago, and hopefully it's one who can help protect the team's rookie quarterback.
