NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Titans (1-6) were blown out by the Detroit Lions (6-1) on Sunday, falling by a final score of 52-14.
While Tennessee was a heavy underdog for the game (+12.5), the ugly and explosive fashion in which the Titans lost left most fans feeling apathetic for the reminder of the season and hopeless for the future beyond. It's clear just how far away from contending the Titans are, regardless of what GM Ran Carthon wants to say.
But this past NFL Sunday was a total loss for Titans fans. With the way things shook out around the league, Tennessee got some help that could give them a valuable boost in the 2025 NFL Draft order.
Both the New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns pulled off upsets and won this week. It was the 2nd win of the season for both teams, and it vaulted the 1-6 Titans up the projected draft board. If the season ended today, Tennessee would have the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Currently Projected 2025 Draft Order
1. Carolina Panthers (1-7)
2. Tennessee Titans (1-6)
3. New England Patriots (2-6)
4. New York Jets (2-6)
5. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6)
6. New Orleans Saints (2-6)
7. Las Vegas Raiders (2-6)
8. Cleveland Browns (2-6)
9. Miami Dolphins (2-5)
10. New York Giants (2-5)
The current consensus big board has two quarterbacks at the top of the incoming draft class. Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward are both on pace to be selected in the Top 10 of April's draft.
If things continue down the current trajectory, the Titans will be in the market for a new quarterback when the draft rolls around. Honestly, it feels like it would take a miracle for the Titans not to take a QB in the first round next year.
If Tennessee is going to be on the hunt for a franchise quarterback to pair with Brian Callahan, Titans fans should hope the front office has their pick of the litter. Drafting behind teams like Las Vegas, Cleveland, and Carolina would be disastrous.
While I'm not somebody who typically hops in the "root for the tank" boat, the Titans need direction. It all start at quarterback. That's something the organization can build around. A top pick in the upcoming draft would not be the worst thing in the world, and all the Titans have to do now is maintain their position near the bottom of the league standings.
