Hours after receiving a positive update on quarterback Jordan Love's groin injury, the Green Bay Packers received another great piece of injury news ahead of the big Detroit Lions matchup on Sunday. Cornerback Jaire Alexander, who hurt his knee in the fourth quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars, doesn't suffer any significant injury.
According to ESPN's Packers beat writer Rob Demovsky, the Packers will monitor Alexander's situation throughout the week, so his status for the Lions game is unclear. But the All-Pro player has a shot to play, which is close to a best-case scenario for Green Bay.
Jaire Alexander has handled several injuries through his NFL career. This year, he missed the games against the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams because of a groin injury.
In the six games Alexander did play, he allowed a 79.9 passer rating when targeted, with two stops and two interceptions.
Great outcome
Safety Evan Williams was another defensive back to leave the Jaguars game with an injury. He hurt his hamstring and left it early. However, the update is positive there as well. According to CheeseheadTV’s Aaron Nagler, Williams’ injury is not a long-term concern for Green Bay.
The game against the Lions will be the most difficult challenge for the Packers this season. The Detroit Lions are coming off a game in which they scored 52 points on the Tennessee Titans. They are fourth in offensive DVOA in 2024.
