This season has unfolded far differently than fans and the media anticipated regarding one of the SEC's newest members, the Oklahoma Sooners. While nobody expected the team to be vying for a championship or achieving anything outlandishly successful, there was a consensus that they'd be contenders near the top echelons of the SEC, perhaps just below the elite teams.

This is the Sooners we are talking about here, one of the most historic college football programs the sport has ever seen. Yet, you wouldn't think that based on the product put on the field this season.

Remember, this is their inaugural season in the college sports' most revered conference, implying there would be challenges. However, a combination of injuries, a flawed offensive strategy, subpar quarterback performance, and ineffective offensive line work have drastically altered the course of their season.

Even with so many things going against them, head coach Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners aren't giving up.

In a season as tumultuous as the Sooners', it would be easy to throw in the towel, dismiss the year as a loss, and shift focus to the future. Yet, Head Coach Brent Venables refuses to let that narrative take hold, and the team continues to believe in its potential.

But, make no doubt about it — the football you are seeing from the Sooners is unacceptable. Brent Venables knows how the fan base is feeling, and he feels the same way.

"My message isn't going to change," Venables said earlier this week. "Being 4-4 at Oklahoma is unacceptable… It's embarrassing… We can't go back and change what happened, but we can control how we finish this thing…"

To many Sooners fans, this season is over. They are not used to being 4-4, just as Venables said, it's unacceptable. The Sooners' playoff aspirations are all but extinguished at this point; in fact, there's no feasible path for them to make it.

Now, as a fan or media member, or whoever roots for this team to do well, you have to hope they start getting their stuff together at the end of the season to build onto next year.
