Despite leaving the shores of Lake Erie with a cathartic win over the Cleveland Browns, the Cincinnati Bengals will be hoping two of their starters aren't seriously injured.
Left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. and free safety Geno Stone each left Sunday's game with injuries and didn't return. Brown was able to leave the field under his own power after suffering a knee injury while Stone was carted off for what's been called a tibia injury just minutes after snagging his first interception as a Bengal.
Fortunately, both players seem to be alright.
Injury updates for Orlando Brown Jr., Geno Stone
Following the win, head coach Zac Taylor told reporters that Stone's injury is "not as bad" as he initially thought it'd be, but will have more information tomorrow.
Brown was able to watch the rest of the game from the sideline after initially going into the locker room and Taylor said that was a good sign.
Cincinnati had to play a lot longer without Brown than Stone during the game as backup tackle Cody Ford ended up playing 36 snaps for the former at left tackle. Pro Football Focus charged Ford with two hurries and a sack allowed on 16 pass blocking snaps.
The disparity between Brown and Ford is staggering. If Brown were to miss any extended time, it would be a detriment for a Bengals' offense that’s only scored four touchdowns over the last two weeks.
Brown spoke to Cincinnati.com's Kelsey Conway and said he'll be alright. That's a positive in terms of avoiding major injury, but whether or not he practices this week will be huge.
Stone also clarified that he hurt his shin and wants to play next week.
Both players appear to be fine at least in the long term, but the Bengals will surely be smart about handling each injury. The team is now 3-4 and climbing out of the basement following a 1-4 start.
For now, it seems like both players have dodged a bullet.
