Going forward, the Cleveland Browns are going to once again have a different quarterback than they started the season thanks to the Deshaun Watson injury.

If the second-year quarterback is healthy to go with his finger injury, he very well could be the guy going forward for Cleveland. Before the loss in Week 7 to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Browns opted to make DTR the backup over Jameis Winston for the first time. It was a sign that Cleveland was going to give DTR a shot to show what he has.

Against the Bengals, Thompson-Robinson went 11-for-24 passing for 82 yards and two interceptions. While one interception wasn’t totally his fault, it was not the game that DTR would have liked to have stepping in. Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett offered up some advice for him going forward.

“Slow the game down. Take your time. We as your teammates, as your family, have your back. You don’t have to make every single play, and not every play has to be a big play,” Garrett explained after the loss to the Bengals. “You can slowly grind it down the field or if you see that big play, go for it. But it doesn’t have to be every single one. And we believe in his throwing ability, we believe in his legs. But don’t take unnecessary hits. Don’t take unnecessary risks and just go for those plays when you see them. Don’t force anything.”

DTR started three games for Cleveland as a rookie fifth-round pick last season. In the total eight games he appeared in, Thompson-Robinson had 440 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions while completing 54 percent of his passes.

The switch to the NFL has proven to be a tough one for DTR and at times he appears to think it is college where he can play recklessly and get out of things. That is not the case in professional football.

Cleveland is 1-6 on the season and their season has really slipped away. All Cleveland can do now is make the best of it by seeing what they have for the future. DTR falls right under that.
