The Las Vegas Raiders needed another quarterback with Aidan O'Connell going on injured reserve with a broken thumb. But, the question was always whether that quarterback they were going to get was going to be a player better than Gardner Minshew, to start over him, or his backup, as Carter Bradley is not an ideal starter.

Well, even after signing their new quarterback, that is very much so still a question.

They signed Desmond Ridder, who started 13 games for the Atlanta Falcons last season and was on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad this season.

The issue with Minshew is the turnovers, and I don't think anyone will dispute that. He had four turnovers alone last game, and now the Raiders lead the league in turnovers and are four ahead of the Tennessee Titans in second.

So, it's a bit weird that they would go and get Ridder, who threw 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season while also throwing for a 64% completion percentage.

But, he was in Atlanta, so who knows? He could be very good here, for all we know. I mean, he does have one thing working for him that Minshew does not, and it certainly gives him the advantage over Minshew.

Raiders' Desmond Ridder has an advantage over Gardner Minshew

Let me preface this by saying, that his having the advantage doesn't mean that he will get the start right away. Ridder still has to learn the offense, the terminology, and a bunch of other things. I think for this week for sure against the Kansas City Chiefs, it will be Minshew, with Ridder as the backup.

But, after this week, if he shows more in practice than Minshew, he has an advantage.

Ridder has played with the guy who has been WR1 the last few weeks. With Jakobi Meyers out, and Davante Adams out of town, Tre Tucker has been WR1. Ridder and Tucker played together in college, where they were very successful at Cincinnati.

With that being said, he has a huge advantage over Minshew in that aspect, as the chemistry is there and much better than Minshew's is with Tucker.

We could see a good connection there if those two do play together because think of this: The Raiders have been trying to get Tucker the ball more, and it just hasn't happened. His speed and downfield ability to stretch the field and create space for other receivers is elite. But, he has to be a threat, and to make him a threat, you have to start feeding him the ball more.

The two of them connected for 59 catches with 754 yards and five touchdowns. The two of them could see the field together against the Cincinnati Bengals, and that would be cool.
