The Miami Dolphins' franchise quarterback is back.
According to Mike McDaniel, Tua Tagovailoa cleared all concussion protocol this week and will start on Sunday afternoon against the Arizona Cardinals.
"He did," McDaniel responded to a question about whether he cleared the concussion protocol. "After going through the process and having a practice where we were able to initiate some contact with them, and then he met with an independent doctor and was fully cleared. He is out of the protocol."
Asked if he will play Sunday, McDaniel's response was simple: "yes". As such, the Dolphins will finally have the services of their starting quarterback after a four-game absence.
However, the statuses of both of his primary targets in the passing game aren't quite as certain. Tyreek Hill is dealing with a foot injury as of Thursday, and Jaylen Waddle has been nursing a quad injury. McDaniel did say he was optimistic about both, but a hesitance to confirm they will play raises a little bit of a red flag – at least until the final practice report comes out with no injury designation for either.
"Yeah, I'm feeling good. We'll see how today goes, but yes, I feel very optimistic and feel good about where they're at.
We'll see if the Dolphins' struggling offense can take a much-needed bit step forward on Sunday afternoon, when Miami and Arizona get underway around 1:00 pm ET from Hard Rock Stadium.
