Sources confirmed to A to Z Sports that Mason Rudolph is officially set to start for the Tennessee Titans in Week 8, as Will Levis continues to nurse his throwing shoulder injury for a second consecutive week.

Titans Head Coach Brian Callahan made it clear on Friday that if Levis isn't healthy enough to start, then he'll be inactive and won't be relied upon as the backup or emergency 3rd QB.

"It's been a great week." said Rudolph to reporters on Thursday. "It's just nice to get back in the flow, get the walkthrough reps in the morning, practice in the afternoon, meetings in the night… getting the reps during the weeks is ideal."

Last week leading up to his start in Buffalo, the decision to go with Rudolph wasn't made until the weekend. So Rudolph didn't get the 1st team reps during the week of practice. This time around, he did.

As for Levis and his recovery, "I'm waiting to feel good" he told the media this week. "Make sure that I'm in the right spot to go out there and play the game the way I know that I can, and all that is right now is taking it one day at a time."

Unlike his previous two weeks, both of which still dealing with the same shoulder injury he sustained in Miami in Week 4, Levis focused on rest ahead of Detroit. "You don't want to throw at the same level you would in a normal practice just because you don't want to deal with the soreness throughout the week… So being tedious with the amount of throws I'm taking and the stress I'm putting on my arm."

It was hinted at by coaches and players all week that Levis would continue to rest in their matchup with Detroit, but the Titans kept the door open until Sunday morning.

The Titans now face the fearsome Detroit Lions with Rudolph at the helm, and their odds seem bleak. As 12 point underdogs, Vegas has this game as the biggest mismatch of Week 8.

Many Titans fans had loudly called for Rudolph to get a look before Levis' injury became a concern. After an uninspiring showing in Buffalo in which the Titans got beat down 34-10, those cries have been replaced by melancholy and looking for QB solutions down the road.

In the meantime, Brian Callahan and this still-new Titans team are focused on finally getting things to click and move in the right direction. Detroit will be as tough a place as any to get that started.
