Off-ball linebacker Quincy Williams was fined $45k, a significant amount, for unnecessary roughness (use of the helmet). This was the play:
Defensive tackle Leonard Taylor was also punished, but it was a lighter amount of money. Taylor was fined $4,435 for a roughing the passer penalty against Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson. The play happened during the second quarter of the game. The NFL deemed it a blow to the head/neck area.
While it's tough to see football players losing money like that for normal plays, at least it goes to a good cause. The fines collected are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support legends in need.
The Jets lost 37-15 to the Steelers, falling to 2-5 in the regular season standings. The team has a chance at getting back on track on Sunday, when they have an AFC East matchup against the New England Patriots, who are 1-6 in the season.
