The Houston Texans' defense came to play on Sunday where they shut down the Indianapolis Colts and made their "star" quarterback Anthony Richardson, look like one of the worst we have seen in some time.
This win was huge. The Texans have surged to a 6-2 record, placing them two games ahead of the Indianapolis Colts, who currently occupy second place in the AFC South. They've managed a clean sweep over the Colts this season, underlining their dominance in the division, despite the typical challenges that come with divisional matchups.
With this lead, the Texans are primarily focused on keeping the Colts at bay. Meanwhile, both the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars seem to be struggling significantly, not posing much threat in the division race this year.
In the win, the defense looked amazing, making Richardson look terrible. Of course, if you take bias out, he is a good quarterback. But, he didn't look good at all on Sunday.
In fact, the Texans' PR account tweeted out a stat that shows just how bad he looked. Richardson looked like the worst quarterback in one-half of football since 1991.
The Texans' defense held Anthony Richardson to a 13.3 completion percentage in the first half, the second-lowest completion percentage by any player in a half since 1991.
Richardson struggled in the first half, completing only 2 of 15 passes with an interception thrown to Jalen Pitre. By the game's end, his stats showed 9 completions out of 19 attempts for 221 yards, but this was inflated by a 60-yard touchdown where two Texans defenders collided, leaving the receiver wide open.
Overall, his performance was subpar. There was a moment where it seemed he might be benched, though the commentators explained it as him taking a rest due to fatigue, curiously right after a play where he only needed to hand off the ball. Next, they have Aaron Rodgers, one of the best to ever do it.
The Texans now have three straight primetime games. Next is the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. Then the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football. And then the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
